I keep a limited supply of makeup. I’m not big on using a lot of make up personally and the stuff I do buy has to last. I’m also cheap. I’m not gonna lie but my makeup can’t cost $$$. I just don’t have the means. So what’s a girl to do? I buy items that last. A good quality lipstick that stays (no need to reapply), a black eyeliner that has no waste and a simple coat gives you a strong black line, or a face powder that is easy and light providing strong coverage without heavy application. Each item might cost a bit more than a $5 item but the longevity of the product means I’m not rebuying every 2 weeks, therefore saving $$. 🙂
So, here’s my list of brands and affordable items of makeup to create my vintage style:
Benefit Cosmetics is my favorite brand. I find their quality is exceptional and the price isn’t too high considering how long their products last.
I’d say my favorite items from them are (In no particular order):
Wake up your eyelids! This warm yellow correcting cream helps to hide redness & discoloration with just a dab. In a snap, eyes look refreshed, frisky, and ready for fun. One shade blends to perfection on any complexion. Includes a mirror for freshening up on the go.
I love this simple correcting cream. I use it under eye when I need a little pick me up. I think it clears away any darkness or redness. My eyes look brighter and I have that starlet look.
Mattify shine with our invisible, weightless balm that leaves skin feeling silky-soft. Fabulous for mid-day touch-ups… this makeup artist fave can be worn alone, under or on top of makeup. Contains Vitamins A, C & E to help smooth away the appearance of fine lines.
Velvety smooth, flawless skin is the envy of all Starlets and Wannabes. A good coat of this silky balm takes away the shine and gloss of the modern world. I often wear it without powder because you really don’t need it.
Say “hello” to flawless NEW packaging! Now in an improved magnetic-close compact, this famous powder cover-up glides on naturally sheer and layers beautifully for customized coverage. Perfect for any skin type, the silky formula comes with a newly designed brush AND a sponge for any degree of coverage you desire.
For the days that my skin is less than perfect and I need a matte all over coverage that isn’t liquidy or that soaks into the pores, I use “Hello Flawless”. I love it.
Stay Dont Stray
This dual-action power primer works 360 degrees around the eyes to make concealers AND eyeshadows STAY PUT. Concealers don’t crease, eyeshadows stay vibrant & true. Sodium hyaluronate hydrates while Vitamins C & E help fight signs of aging.
I used this originally as a concealer for under eye discoloration. Wearing black eyeliner daily doesn’t always come off as clean as you’d like. This concealer easily removed the darkness. You really don’t need much either. I use less that a teenie pea size squirt. This is a favorite because it keeps the smudge from your mascara from under your eye. Also, it keeps away the crease line from above the eyelid.
Now for the item every Vintage Gal wants to compare notes on, Red Lipstick. I have strong feelings on this one. I’m hooked on a limited edition product called “Rockalily”. Ree Ree created a smooth, creamy lipstick that is dynamo. Don’t believe me? Check out these lips!
A gorgeous true red that lasts and is almost a technicolor! It’s my “Special occasions” lipstick. If I’m going for a softer look I’ll often use Soap and Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker in Plum. It’s a natural shade and is delightful on dry lips.
Okay, so now the eye liner. Every girl wants that vintage line that defined looks from the 30’s to the 60’s. Whether fat, thin or with a curve, I always feel more complete in my look with eyeliner. For me, I find a liquid liner applied with a brush to be most effective to achieve the look. I *used* to be a MAC fan… I know, I know, that’s hard for some to hear. I’ve become addicted to Maybelline Eye Shadow Gel Eyeliner. It’s completely smooth, simple and lasts forever.
All of these little things contribute to making a stunning vintage style, if I do say so myself. 🙂
